Urban areas that are densely populated there is found a general downward trend in meth intake. Use of crack, cocaine and powder is seen to be reducing in such areas. However, both are still causes of death by overdose or criminal activities. In the rural neighborhoods and the suburbs the predominance of crystal methamphetamine is still very high. This is a all-time problem over here. However, the State has destroyed huge number of meth labs and drug counters. This has reduced the use of drug to some extent.

Methamphetamine which is also known by various names like crystal meth, glass, crank, speed, meth, crystal is a highly sympathomimetic and psychostimulant drug. Meth causes a trigger in the brain by releasing substances like norepinephrine and dopamine. This highly addictive drug causes an intense sense of euphoria or a high. Hence to feel the same rush people need more and more of the drug. Soon when they get comfortable with a certain dose they need a higher dosage to achieve the euphoric stage. Withdrawal from meth causes excessive sleeping, depressions, excessive sleeping, anxiety, and craving and strong urges for the drug. To ease down the cravings and users often take sedatives.

Nearly in 47 states of the US, methamphetamine has been the primary drug to be abused. Nearly 86% of the admissions for treatment of drugs were caused by crystal meth. The rate of meth abuse on a national level has enhanced from 13 per 100,000 people during the year 1993 and 2003 to nearly 56 people out of 100,000 of 12 years and above. The level of meth abuse has reached the epidemic stage. Drug rehab centers are trying their best to help addicts get back their normal lives. Proper care and treatment and counseling are required. Meth has increased at an alarming rate in the whole of US.
