The methamphetamine causes an artificial release of substances like dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin inside the human brain. An occasional meth consumer goes through a period of no sleep and lack of appetite. He even stays awake for thirteen to fifteen days continuously leading to extreme irritability and tiring behaviour. They experience an intense urge to continue using meth and transforms to be tweakers who become violent and dangerous due to loss of sleep.

During the years 1893 and 1919, meth was developed in its crystallized form and it was widely distributed to the military of Germany during the World War 2. Meth was popular in the medical community for a short period of time. Since, meth became an addiction among the people, the Japanese banned its usage. However, by the year 1960 many factories started manufacturing methamphetamine secretly. Meth started spreading rapidly and soon reached the epidemic levels.

In today’s world the dangers of meth addiction has increased to a considerable. It is a threat to mankind. It’s considered to be a very renowned party drug and it gives self confidence to people using it. The addiction of crystal meth has enhanced over the recent years. It seems to be a glamorous thing to be taken for party goers. It is difficult to make people understand the devastating effects of methamphetamine.The meth used in the streets are manufactured illegally. This is a highly toxic drug which creates addiction by prolonged use.

The most usual route for medical administration for meth addiction is oral administration. The most general ways are when meth is snorted, dissolved in water and injected, swallowed, smoked, inserted anally or into the urethra. The addiction for meth develops when the route of administration methods makes the mixture in the blood rise rapidly. This happens due to the effects felt rapidly by the user with a high intensity.

Research and studies indicate that the rush or high achieved from methamphetamine consumption is proportional to the rate at which the level of blood of the drug enhances. Smoking meth makes the pleasures felt fast and rapid. It is the fastest mechanism that works in the chemistry amphetamines and methamphetamines. Within a short period of time the concentration of blood increases and the drug travels to our brain through a direct route when consumed as intravenous injection.

Injecting is a popular route for meth consumption. The hydrochloride salt which dissolves in water is injected from 125mg to more than one gram with the help of a needle. These involve risks of diseases from blood like hepatitis and HIV. When meth is smoked it is vaporized to produce smoke or fumes which is inhaled. Glass pipes are used to frequently smoke this. These are also kept on an aluminum foil and heated from below with a flame. Long term usage can cause heart failure and IV amphetamines.

Research says that nearly 84% of people who have tried glass feel the urge to try it again and around 42% of new users feel to get the high again. The consumption of glass or crystal meth gives a feeling of euphoria and a high which usually lasts from 2 to 16 hours. This stimulates our nervous system making people stay awake for longer periods and be energized and confident and happy.

Initially meth was prescribed as a weight loss medicine. But the reactions came out to be dangerous when people become addicted to it.  Glass causes rapid weight loss. However, these effects are short term. The body develops a tolerance for this chemical and the loss of weight stops within six weeks. When a person stops consuming meth the weight again enhanced.

The prolonged use of meth causes damage to the mind and body of the person. The most commonly seen symptoms are insomnia, sweating, paranoia, dry mouth, agitation, aggressive behavior, irritation, depression, cardiovascular problems. The effects of this drug are very similar to that of cocaine. Use of glass causes a violent behavior, suppressed appetites, sleep disorders, mood swings, tremors, convulsions, irregular heart rate.

The various long term effects of meth consumption are brain damage similar to the damages cause by Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease. It can also lead to stroke, coma and death. Chronic users of methamphetamine also show homicidal and suicidal thoughts. Glass when used by carrying mothers can also lead to premature birth and defects of the new born child including heart problems and cleft palate.
